A Bremen-based startup that gained notoriety through the Vox TV show “Höhle der Löwen” (The Lion’s Den). The founding team rejected the offer at the time, but the breakthrough came nonetheless and the company now employs over 50 people.

Since customer acquisition was already working very well through a mix of Amazon, SEO, performance marketing, and influencers, the next big step was to develop a fundamental and customized retention strategy and turn first-time customers into satisfied regulars.
We therefore worked together for several weeks to establish and expand the CRM process. The existing newsletter marketing on Mailchimp was to be replaced by more targeted measures in order to provide end customers with even more personalized content and to have a scalable tool for further growth. Together, the main goal was to migrate from Mailchimp to Klaviyo.
While Mailchimp discontinued its Shopify integration in 2019, Klaviyo focuses primarily on strong integrations with a wide variety of systems. This means that all relevant shop data can be integrated in just a few minutes. This allows you to determine exactly how much revenue was generated via specific email campaigns. It also allows you to see when someone has started the checkout process, placed an order, or returned a product.
Klaviyo operates with a transparent pricing model based on the number of contacts. There are no additional costs for services such as dedicated IP, back-in-stock automations, back-in-stock functionality, and signup forms.
Want to contact only users who have never placed an order? Or inform all users who ordered red jeans last week that their delivery will be delayed? With Klaviyo, that’s no problem at all. Klaviyo’s segment feature allows you to personalize email automations and campaigns even more. This also works with normal targeting options such as customer website activity, order activity, and activity in external tools such as Typeform or Gorgias.
While Mailchimp relies on a pure list structure, Klaviyo works with customer profiles. A user in Klaviyo can be included in multiple lists and segments. In addition, all of their data (orders, activities, custom properties, predicted analytics) is visualized directly on a customer profile. This makes it easier to scale your own CRM activities and work more comprehensively without losing track of the big picture.
Pop-ups, flyouts, or embedded forms can be designed and displayed directly from Klaviyo. This saves you additional costs for opt-in tools and provides direct integration with Klaviyo. For example, if you display a voucher in a pop-up, you can send it personalized in a follow-up email directly from Klaviyo.



Migrating CRM tools should be carefully considered, but more importantly, it should be well planned so that the change can be made without interrupting email delivery (and thus losing revenue).
However, Klaviyo has a Mailchimp integration, which makes it possible to push data directly to Klaviyo via integration. In preparation, we already set up the pre-purchase flows in Klaviyo. We then used both tools in parallel for a few weeks. This allowed us to slowly warm up the Klaviyo account and at the same time
still send campaigns from Mailchimp before we have completely switched over.

After signing up for the newsletter via a sign-up form, customers receive a welcome flow.
After customers have canceled the checkout process, they will receive an email to complete their order.
If customers have viewed a certain product, we can suggest that exact product to them again in a targeted email.
If customers have been inactive for a long time, we can try to reactivate them with the help of winback automation.
